The career advancement roundtable aims to promote a dialogue between established and junior scholars. This roundtable will focus on strategies involved in applying for a new or first job in the academic field. We hope to touch on topics like: (1) how to get one’s foot in the door, that is: how to write an academic job cover letter, how to frame one’s topic to maximize the application consideration and how to frame one’s research and teaching statement. We hope to also touch on (2) job interview strategies (dos and don’ts when interviewing), as well as (3) more long term career advancement strategies like networking strategies, publication strategies, and increasing the visibility of one’s research.
