2I Dynamics of Identity Construction under Discrimination in Real Life Settings

(Session Organizer) Wolfgang Wagner, Johannes Kepler University, Linz, Austria

Conference: ISPP 2011
Affiliation: Johannes Kepler University, Linz, Austria
Research Area: Intergroup relations

Groups and their members don’t live in a void but are defined and their boundaries set by their own identity projects as much as by their outgroups’ stereotyping. While much of the research on group responses to discrimination and stereotyping are experimental, less inquiries address real life conflicts. In this session we bring together studies that look at how these two sides articulate in real life and in the context of social conflict.
