Greetings from the Early Career Committee ECC!
Our annual meeting in San Antonio, Texas is fast approaching, and we look forward to welcoming our fellow Early Career Scholars. This year, the ECC has been working very hard to organize exciting events at this year’s annual meeting and I would like to take the time to tell you about these events.
This year, the ECC is again offering the very popular Mentoring Luncheon. This event gives interested early career scholars the opportunity to enjoy a lunch with a mentor of their choosing and receive research and career advice, all while developing long-term mentoring connections with those who came before. Because this event is so popular, enrollment is on a first-come, first-served basis, so make sure that you indicate your interest when you register for this year’s meeting! If the event is full, the Mentoring Luncheon team has a waiting-list option that allows for the possibility that last-minute cancellations result in an open spot. Each year, this event receives very positive reviews from both early career scholars and the volunteer mentors. Sign up today to take part in this outstanding event!
In addition to the Luncheon, we will once again hold our annual ECC Social Hour. This event is a great opportunity for early career scholars to catch up with old friends and make new friends in a casual and collegial environment. During the day, we will also be hold our two Professional Development Roundtables! The first roundtable is titled The Perils of Publishing – Developing Productive Writing Habits and will cover topics such as striking the right balance between research, teaching, and service and will bring the perspectives of scholars from both teaching- and research-oriented institutions. The second roundtable is titled The Challenges of Collaboration – Developing Productive Research Networks. With the ever-growing importance of collaborative research in political psychology, this roundtable will cover ways in which early career scholars can initiate collaborative relationships. Keep an eye on the program for location and times of these events!
We are also please to offer the Elevator Pitch Workshop for the third year. This event gives early career scholars a chance to design and practice their own “elevator pitch” and receive feedback from established scholars about the ways to provide the most information in the shortest amount of time. On completion of the event, those who attend will receive a certificate of completion.
Finally, we have a variety of positions open on the ECC that we hope early career scholars will consider applying for! The open positions are: Chair-Elect, Professional Development Coordinators (two open positions), Mentor Program Coordinator, and Newsletter Editor.
